100 Amp 220 Generator With Key Fob

Posted on  by

Most portable generators have either recoil start, electric start or both. However, there are a few portable generators that are equipped with internal batteries and wireless remote start controls. This allows you to start the generator from a distance with a remote start key fob.

Our buying guide for affordable portable generators with wireless remote start tries to include a variety of generators that use different fuel sources and have specific features. These specific functions might include things such as an inverter system, parallel capability or dual fuel ability.

Inverter Generator With Wireless Remote Start

We think that the Champion 75537i portable inverter generator (reviewed here) is an affordable option if you want the convenience of a wireless remote start function. You can start its 171cc gasoline engine with the recoil starter, electric starter or the included wireless remote control key fob. This generator provides 2800 running watts and 3100 starting watts. It has a RV-ready 30-amp outlet, two 20-amp outlets and a 12-volt DC outlet with dual USB adapter.

100 Amp 220 Generator With Key Fob Battery

The internal wireless remote control system of this inverter generator has four main components. It consists of a receiver control module, ignition switch, battery switch and the wireless remote key fob. The remote control will only be active if both the ignition switch and battery switch are in the “ON” position. However, keeping the ignition and battery switches in the “ON” position will unfortunately drain small amounts of energy (about 2 mA) from the battery. This is necessary in order to start and stop the generator with the remote key fob. Otherwise there would be no point in getting a generator with a remote start feature. Nevertheless, the internal 12V battery is automatically recharged while the engine is running.

The battery needs enough charge to be able to turn the engine over. The battery switch is illuminated in the “ON” position if the battery is sending out a charge. If the switch does not light up, then the battery might have insufficient charge. You should probably completely recharge the battery at least once per month.

The wireless remote start key fob has a maximum range of 80 feet. However, certain objects and thick walls might prevent the signal from reaching the remote control module.

There are a few things that you should check before you press the start button on the remote control key fob. First, check that all the connected appliances are either off or unplugged. It is best to let the engine reach its full speed and warm up before turning on appliances. Nevertheless, there is a voltage delay when using the remote control module and key fob to start and stop the engine. These short delays of a few seconds allow the engine to start up or stop safely without causing possible voltage problems with appliances. Please note that this power panel delay does not occur when using either the recoil or electric starter.

The next thing to do is to turn on all the necessary knobs and buttons. The fuel valve, ignition and battery switches should be in the “ON” position. You might now get a sense that the remote starting process is not as simple as turning on a television with a remote control.

Finally, you can move away from the generator. Get the wireless key fob, press and release the start button once. The generator will try to start for up to six times on its own, therefore press the button only once.

The Champion Power Equipment 75537i is an affordable inverter generator with wireless remote start. Its retail price is at least 50% cheaper than a Japanese brand name generator. Nonetheless, the quality of this inverter generator is still good enough for frequent use (view current offers at Amazon.com).

Remote Start Inverter Generator With Parallel Capability

The Energizer eZV3200P seems like an interesting remote start inverter generator with a single-outlet parallel port. The parallel cable has cross-model support, so you can connect two Energizer eZV P-series inverter generators (both eZV2000P and eZV3200P) in parallel to generate extra wattage. The parallel cable, that is sold separately, has a small box with two outlets where you can plug in appliances.

The Energizer eZV3200P provides up to 3200 starting watts and 2800 running watts. It has a 208cc gasoline engine with an eco-throttle button. This inverter generator seems to operate quietly at around 60 dB(A), although some people say that it sounds a little louder than that figure. The inverter system uses dual wave technology which means that it controls both the voltage and the current for a cleaner sine wave signal.

The control panel actually has a data display screen! You can use the display button to show the engine speed, hertz, volts and run time. Very few generators can boast with such a display.

It unfortunately does not have a 30-amp socket like the Champion 75537i we mentioned above. What it does have in the way of outlets are one 120-volt 23-amp twist lock socket, two 120-volt 20-amp sockets and one 12V DC socket. It also has the redesigned single-outlet parallel connection port.

This generator has both electric start and wireless remote start, but not recoil start. The remote start key fob is stated to be effective within 100 feet. Keep some new batteries handy should the batteries in the remote control need replacement.

There does seem to be an issue with the wireless remote start. It seems that, in the beginning at least, the remote start function turned off automatically if it was not used within 15 minutes. This was done to reduce the power drain of the remote system on the internal battery. However, this deactivation of the remote start standby mode have recently been changed to 48 hours. This is much more practical than the previous time duration of only 15 minutes!

Please note that the Energizer eZV3200P 3200-watt inverter generator might not be available for online sale at the moment.

Portable Dual Fuel Generator With Remote Start

100 Amp 220 Generator With Key Fob Chain

Our search for a remote start generator that can run on either gasoline or propane turned up very few results. We eventually chose the Westinghouse WGen7500DF dual fuel portable generator as an example for this guide. It has an engine shut off switch, push button electric starter and a wireless remote start key fob. The engine has its own battery with a battery indicator light on the control panel.

The Westinghouse WGen7500DF portable generator has a big 420cc, 4-stroke, OHV engine with an automatic choke and automatic low oil level shutdown. You can easily switch between running the engine on either gasoline or propane by turning the fuel selector switch. A gas regulator is built into the side of the generator, but you need to provide your own propane tank.

The gasoline fuel tank on top of the generator has a 6.6-gallon capacity. It has a small fuel gauge with a simple red/white marker which shows if the tank is full or empty. This generator provides 7500/9000 watts on gasoline and 6750/8550 on propane gas. It is slightly less powerful when running on propane.

The control panel of the Westinghouse WGen7500DF features a small data meter with a mode button for displaying the volts, frequency or hours. The WGen7500DF does not have an inverter system and might not be suitable for sensitive electronic equipment.

The available power outlets on the control panel are:

  • Battery charge port (use included battery charger to recharge the battery)

The Westinghouse WGen7500DF seems to be an affordable dual fuel generator with remote start. There is also a smaller model available, the WGen3600DF, which provides up to 4650 peak wattage. You do not have to search any further if you desire a remote start dual fuel portable generator (buy it at Amazon.com).

Conclusion

We would probably buy either the Champion 75537i or the Westinghouse WGen7500DF. It depends on if you want to use propane or just gasoline. They both come with a remote start key fob.

We searched for a Yamaha or a Honda generator with remote start, but it seems that this feature is only available as an optional accessory. You have to purchase the remote start kit (which could cost up to $200) and install it yourself. We decided not to include them in our guide. Nevertheless, you might be able to install a wireless remote control for the Yamaha EF4500iSE or the Honda EU7000iS.
